IPL Skin Treatments
What are IPL Skin Treatments?
Many factors contribute to aging our skin including excessive sun exposure and decreased production of collagen. At Cire we use Intense Pulsed Light technology to correct sun damage, age spots, pigmentation, uneven skin Tone, rosacea and red vein.
How do IPL skin treatments work?
The Intense Pulsed Light technology uses safe, visible light which will make your skin think it has been damaged and go into mass overproduction of healing collagen. This then promotes a healthy new plump skin whilst removing issues such as pigments, thread veins and redness, The IPL light that is allowed to reach the skin targets melanin (which is in age spots/sun damage/pigmentation) and haemoglobin (which is in blood vessels/thread veins). When the wavelength reaches the melanin or haemoglobin, the heat from the light destroys them with a flash.
The CIRE IPL system has been programmed to provide treatments on a variety of skin colours so, anyone can take advantage of the treatment and achieve younger looking skin. It is the same system used by the NHS and is the leading medically tried and tested system in the UK.
You will need 1 to 4 twenty-minute photo rejuvenation treatments depending on the desired outcomes. The light emitted makes your skin anywhere on the body look smoother by tightening pores, reducing age spots, visible blood vessels and veins, uneven pigmentation or diffuse redness, which improves your skin's texture.
Is it painful?
As no anaesthetics are required and individuals vary in their thresholds of pain, it is difficult to predict how much, if any, pain a particular individual client will feel when he or she receives the treatment. Patients state that it feels like a case of over exposure to the sun.
Prior to treatment, you will be asked to avoid tanning for at least 4 weeks. Tanning increases the melanin in your skin, so will cause the skin to absorb a larger amount of light which ultimately makes the treatment less effective. It is therefore essential to have no recent tan/fake tan to the area to be treated.
In terms of post-treatment care, none is usually necessary. However, clients with sensitive skin may benefit from applying a cold compress to the skin immediately after treatment or applying ALOE VERA. Additionally, it is essential to use a sunscreen/block (minimum SPF 30) for a few weeks following and during the course of treatment, as the skin will be very sensitive to the sun.
Immediately after your treatment, you may notice that the skin looks a little ‘dirty’ for a few days. In some cases there may be swelling and redness similar to sunburn, superficial crusting may also rarely occur. However, these symptoms are only temporary and you will find that your skin will look and feel smoother and fresher as it renews itself to reveal brighter fresher new skin.
In order to maintain this fresh youthful radiance, clients often elect to schedule 1-2 annual maintenance treatments. In addition to IPL and for those seeking the ultimate in skin renewal we highly recommend interlinking your IPL sessions with Regima skin peels and products.
